The stone and the Mermaid

The ghosts are silent
among the teargas
and the fires
they listen to the breaking
of the sculptor’s stone
and hastily return to the graves
ready to endure one more insult

but beneath them
the Mermaid is getting restless

a foolish sailor gave her
the wrong answer.
