Absence

The stage in front of the smooth smiles
exit on the left
I hear you say the rain had started
at the last song
I left my bag backstage
tied with a rope
I’ll hand you my handkerchief
after the applause
I won’t stay for the standing ovation
I’ll leave without you
before anyone sees
I am not there.
